Rome, Italy (4E) – Italy on Thursday sent former Prime Minister and media magnate Silvio Berlusconi to one-year in prison for ordering the release of leaked transcripts from a police wiretap to a newspaper he owns.
Berlusconi is also facing charges for tax fraud and for having sex with a minor in two other cases, whose verdicts are likely, later this month.
The billionaire media tycoon can appeal against the conviction, which may suspend his sentence as Italian law prevents people aged over 75, who are holding sentences less than two years, from actually going to prison.
The media mogul turned 76 last year.
