Mutual Funds — General Information:

ETFs and ETNs:

An ETF is an Exchange Traded Fund. An ETN is an Exchange Traded Note. Although they are similar in concept, ETFs are secured investments while ETNs are not.

Hedge Funds:

Although many of these riskier funds went out of existance in 2008, some survived. Although hedge funds are known for taking short positions, this is not always true. Today they represent a variety of investing styles.

Barclay’s Hedge Fund Database will (for a fee) give you information on 4956 hedge funds. They also offer information on an additional 16,800+ non-reporting funds.

Barrons Magazine publishes a yearly list of their top 100 hedge funds.You can find more hedge fund information at the following publications:

Mutual Fund Portfolio Managers:

  • New York Society of Security Analysts — A forum for exchange of investment information among corporate officials, financial analysts, portfolio managers and others involved in investment decision making. They maintain a program of continuing education.
  • CFA Institute & Assoc. for Investment Management and Research (AIMR)– International, nonprofit organization of investment practitioners and educators. Serves investors by educating and examining investment professionals. Grants the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
  • IR101.com – For those of you who are Investor Relations people looking for names of portfolio managers, this site has a wealth of information including how to find the right institutional investors.
